When Mike Filsaime first launched Butterfly Marketing, he had a vision of a website that covered all of the bases.  It allowed product owners to give away a front end product for list building, then it gave at least one offer for a paid product (in the early version one was good enough, but subsequent upgrades brought additional upsells and downsells) so that the product owner could make some money from the list building efforts.

Better yet was the viral nature of Butterfly Marketing, since the product owner would tell each person that downloaded his product for free that they could make money by giving away his product.  This was a big deal, and the viral product download became the norm for most of 2007.
