They made a liar out of me…

I was planning on only opening up those 10 spots for my coaching
program, but alas, life got in the way!

I went to my mechanics this morning to get my truck all prepped up
for the drive to Washington DC for jvAlert Live. After all, it is a
14 hour drive, and I want to be sure the truck is safe.

The mechanic comes up with a list of things that HAVE to be taken
care of before I drive to DC. My serpentine belt (that belt that
runs the AC, the alternator and the water pump) needs to be
replaced, I need a front end alignment, they need to replace the
rack (leaking) and of course because of the alignment being out,
the front tires need replacing…

So now my budget is shot to heck, since I had not planned on that
expense in addition to the hotel, gas and food of jvAlert, so I
have to open up 5 more spots for my coaching program.

Blogger: Plan Thy Content!

Writing a blog is important because you are developing a following. The minute you stop informing them or entertaining them, you lose them!

Choosing your content is vital, because you can find out what your readers are looking for and give it to them!

One way is from their comments. You want to encourage people to leave comments on your blog.

I guest-write posts for http://successfool.com and I often use comments as the topic for my next post, because it is what the people ask for! This makes the commenters more likely to comment again!

Controversy Gets Comments

As I mentioned on Monday, you can stir up a little controversy and get a lot of traffic to your blog, and comments. Sometimes you can plan it out, and other times it is hit or miss. Persuasion coach Dave Lakhani states that you must be controversial to be persuasive. Basically, if you polarize your audience, you will have half the people loving you and half the people hating you!

Both are desirable results, because the comments of the haters will fuel the lovers to buy more stuff from you! The goal there is to find a topic in your market that gets a lot of traction both in “for” and “against” comments. Forums are the perfect place to find such topics, because those places have a lot of opinionated people congregating there, and they are not afraid to tell you how they feel! If you can write a post that gets them talking in the forum, you know they will also leave you comments!

Press Releases – Fuel Your Audience!

When you have your content lined up based on the holidays, special events or what is going on in the news, you can easily add traffic to that with a well placed press release. For $500 I have some people that will write it for you based on a questionnaire you fill out, and then we submit it to paid and free press release sites. Your press release should be written in the third party, as though you are a reporter. Talk about the reason you are telling the world about this topic. Tie it in to whatever is going on, so that a news service would be crazy to miss this story!

If you are going to write your press release yourself, make sure you have someone read it to you. Listen for anything that makes you cringe, anything that assaults your sensibility. Sometimes when we read our own writing, we gloss over stuff that we can immediately pick up when we hear someone else say them.

Completeness Counts

You couldn’t tell from this series… but planning content can be as much as spending one day writing 5 blog posts in your text processor, and then spending the next few days setting them up in your WordPress complete with photos and videos to accompany them!
By doing your posts all in one sitting, your thoughts are more easily completed, and you sound more organized!

I had a strange realization on Sunday. I am getting soft.

No, I don’t mean it is time to click yes on the Viagra spam in my inbox… but I mean that my tough guy image is melting away.

You see, as a father to 3 daughters, I always tried to be the authoritarian figure, while my wife was their bud. But over time, I found this to be detrimental to our relationships, since my wife is still their “go to” person whenever the girls want to talk.

Meanwhile, I have begun to use social media.
In social media, you make a lot of friends quickly. Some people are influencers, some are followers and the people in between are the connectors who make sure you find what you are looking for. The connectors are the ones who help you locate the person who knows how to shoot video or install blogs when you ask for help.

By spending a lot more time on social media, I find myself being influenced by a lot of people with hearts of gold. When I wake up grumpy because my cat wouldn’t let me sleep, a couple of cool tweeple (people on twitter) raise my spirits instantly with a quick tweet to acknowledge my existence. By doing this, they give love in a way that validates, without expecting anything in return.

I believe that being validated by hundreds of people on a daily basis has a way of transforming one’s heart. Feeling the emotions from people all over the world as each one has a roller coaster of feelings throughout the events in a day, a week, a year or even a life! It is through these feelings that we manage our lives, and having others show that they care is really important. We really do need that in our lives.

Look at the 2001 movie How The Grinch Stole Christmas and see the effect of a little girl’s love on a gnarly old Grinch’s heart. His realization that you couldn’t buy Christmas Joy was compounded by the fact that Cindy-Lou Who didn’t buy the scary Grinch demeanor to form a powerful combination of heart expanding magic!

As my twitter following expanded into the 1000 and now 1450 range, more people with love in their lives share happiness, sadness, fears and triumphs in a way that really makes a difference (at least in my life it does). When I have situations that make me feel alone, I simply reach out to my social media brothers and sisters and someone out there brings me out of the funk that may have been keeping So a toughened heart can get bathed in the love of hundreds of people and eventually the crusty exterior gets loosened and the soft middle is exposed.

Now don’t get me wrong, if I see a boy with his hand within a mile of my daughters, I still get out the shotgun, but now I smile at my daughter while I am doing it.
