When I first decided to leave Sam’s Club and go full time Internet Marketing, it was a very scary process…

First of all, my income had not quite reached the point where I was totally secure, but I was making money. So I took the leap of faith and I jumped out of my comfort zone. It has been a wild ride ever since.

Something that I am blessed to have is a relationship with a key group of marketers.

But that did not happen overnight. Social networking was a piece of that puzzle, although I did not do a lot of social networking until last year. But once I did, my business exploded into overdrive and now things are looking very promising indeed!

The piece of the puzzle that filled in the most area in the big picture was attending live events. That single thing has made my business expand at the speed of light! Without live events, I would not have gotten the nuggets of information that are so vital to success and the relationships with the key people who made the difference for me.

jvAlert Live is the second event I ever attended, but I never would have had the success that I did without it, because people I had been watching from afar became my friends. They now know who I am and because I was not trying to push myself and my products on them, they actually began to like me as a friend first.

I cannot tell you how important that is.

Building a relationship with other marketers will take you to heights previously unknown, because you will learn from each other, be able to promote each other and the products. Sometimes, just having people tell their friends about you is enough to boost your income… it definitely boosts your ego.

But keep your ego in check!

If you become too big for your britches… you can have the opposite happen to you. Some of the friends I made were in similar situations with mine and grew quickly, before becoming cocky and knocking themselves down a few pegs. Never forget to be humble…

So why am I going into all of this detail?

I have a lot of events coming up. Starting with my Social Net Effect Workshop 101 on Saturday February 7, from 6PM to 9PM at jvAlert Live. It is separate from jvAlert Live, and includes 3 hours of hands on training on how to make Social Networking and Blogging work for your business.

You should attend if you feel like you don’t have the time to make social networking work for you. In fact, it is critical for you to be there if that is where you are in your thinking. I am giving a $30 discount to jvAlert attendees, because the price is $97 if you are just attending my workshop.

If you get your jvAlert Ticket from me I will get you in free:

I am also booked to speak at the Music City Marketing Conference and I am offering a private mastermind for the first 20 people who get their tickets from me. If we get all 20, we may have to choose a different location for the private mastermind, but for now it is scheduled for my hotel room on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 9 to 11PM. If you would like to be in our mastermind, just grab your tickets now by clicking on this link:

If we get more than 20, I will break the masterminds up into 2 smaller groups 7 – 9 and 9 – 11…

I am really looking forward to meeting more and more of my readers as I travel around the country, because I learn as much from you as you do from me! Synergy is when the combined talents and knowledge of two or more people equal a greater amount than the sum of each individual… Together Everyone Achieves More!

As you can tell, I have gotten so much busier as growth hits my business. My list of things to do seems to keep expanding as I get new ideas and partner with new people and start new projects. One thing I wish I had gotten a couple years ago is the Cheaters Guide To Marketing… It would have short circuited my long and winding road to success by a good 9 – 18 months, because so much of the how to get from point A to point B is in how you take action. Focused action is the best, but focused action with shortcuts, that is the best of all!

Eric Farewell and Richard Legg included me in their creation of this product, so I got the benefit of the cheats before anyone else! Being able to cheat the price of success out of a few hundred man-hours… it is a great feeling! The learning curve is always the most daunting part of Internet Marketing. Knowing that you don’t know what happens next is a scary thing. That is why this course is so powerful, giving you the steps that make you money without the fluff that wastes your time!

As you can tell, success is by no means a result of just putting your nose to the grindstone and working your butt off. (First of all, if it is your nose on the grindstone, your butt will not be what gets worked off… but I digress). You need others in your life, you need knowledge and you need the right direction. When you stop trying to do it all yourself, that is the point when success happens.

My father was listening to me, my daughters and their boyfriends talking about how people get to within inches of a goal and then make a stupid decision to quit. One story was about a kid who went through 2 years of diesel mechanic school and was one month from completing it when he quit. Because he had gotten a girl pregnant. He was one month from having a career that would guarantee him $40,000 or more per year as a highly trained diesel mechanic, depending on where he went to work, instead he quit and was only able to secure minimally paying work at shops that did not look for a certification for their mechanics. One month!

My father took it all in quietly, and then he said, “People are always reinventing the wheel! No matter how many people show them how good that wheel works, they want to start from the drawing board and do it their way, only to find out that it is still the same wheel once it is all said and done.”

Do you want to reinvent the wheel? Or ride that wheel and 3 others and get to where you want to go much faster on the vehicle that others are showing you works already!

Have an amazing day!

PS – I told you a couple of times already about The Shortcut. This is a training course like nothing you will ever see, because it does not give you anything about the mechanics of succeeding in your own business. But it is the most vital part of success: your mindset.

Without the right mindset, you are doomed to failure, because you will only work half-heartedly and without focus. The Shortcut will show you how to circumvent the mental processes that stop you in your tracks.

Get The Shortcut before the price goes up in the next day or so.

Trust.

Something that is so necessary in a business relationship is so often ignored or not enough emphasis is placed on it and the business struggles to get it back once lost.

When you lose the trust of your clients, you will have a major problem trying to win them back!

So how do you gain that trust to begin with?

Simply expecting people to trust you is not enough. You must show a track record of following through on what you say you are going to do. You tell the truth. Don’t exaggerate or make false claims about your product.

Be willing to give your product away to get testimonials from happy customers. The more you do to build confidence in your ability to deliver the goods, the more you will inspire others to join you.

When you see people like Mike Filsaime getting behind a project, it is not because they are looking to make an extra buck. More often than not, they have seen what the product can do, they have met the person behind the project, and they have developed a trust in that person. You won’t see Mike putting his name in an untested product or telling his customers about someone who rips off his customers.

The pressure is when people of Mike Filsaime’s character and position takes an interest in you. You then have to be able to handle massive amounts of traffic. Make sure you are scalable to the point of getting hundreds of thousands of new customers. Be ready to handle a server outage with a backup plan, and take steps with your merchant account to let them know that a huge influx of money is coming in, so that they don’t freeze your account.

Being prepared for success is the best way to inspire and keep the trust of the people you serve and the people who will want to work with you once you have established trust. Remembering that people are counting on you every step of the way is a great way to stay humble and develop the sound character that you want to portray to your audience.

So whether you are a social networker or a product owner looking to sell your stuff, you need to establish and maintain a trust relationship with everyone around you. Without that, you are not going to stay in the limelight very long.

That is my sermon for today…

Have an amazing day!

PS – Thanks to everyone who wrote me encouraging messages and wished me fun in the Caribbean! I appreciate you very much!
We are in the process of getting together a group for next year’s cruise, so if you are interested in joining us for the trip of a lifetime, aboard the Carnival Dream (the ship is still being built) you will have a chance to reserve your cabin in the next week. Since I want to be able to offer an incentive for anyone who cruises with me, I will want to know who is interested in joining our group, so that I can schedule a 3 hour Social Network Mastermind Group where we can discuss the things that work and those that don’t for each of us. The goal is to fill 32 cabins for just the Social Networking Masterminders. We sail January 9 – 16, 2010 so you can plan your schedule for next year immediately!

I had a strange realization on Sunday. I am getting soft.

No, I don’t mean it is time to click yes on the Viagra spam in my inbox… but I mean that my tough guy image is melting away.

You see, as a father to 3 daughters, I always tried to be the authoritarian figure, while my wife was their bud. But over time, I found this to be detrimental to our relationships, since my wife is still their “go to” person whenever the girls want to talk.

Meanwhile, I have begun to use social media.
In social media, you make a lot of friends quickly. Some people are influencers, some are followers and the people in between are the connectors who make sure you find what you are looking for. The connectors are the ones who help you locate the person who knows how to shoot video or install blogs when you ask for help.

By spending a lot more time on social media, I find myself being influenced by a lot of people with hearts of gold. When I wake up grumpy because my cat wouldn’t let me sleep, a couple of cool tweeple (people on twitter) raise my spirits instantly with a quick tweet to acknowledge my existence. By doing this, they give love in a way that validates, without expecting anything in return.

I believe that being validated by hundreds of people on a daily basis has a way of transforming one’s heart. Feeling the emotions from people all over the world as each one has a roller coaster of feelings throughout the events in a day, a week, a year or even a life! It is through these feelings that we manage our lives, and having others show that they care is really important. We really do need that in our lives.

Look at the 2001 movie How The Grinch Stole Christmas and see the effect of a little girl’s love on a gnarly old Grinch’s heart. His realization that you couldn’t buy Christmas Joy was compounded by the fact that Cindy-Lou Who didn’t buy the scary Grinch demeanor to form a powerful combination of heart expanding magic!

As my twitter following expanded into the 1000 and now 1450 range, more people with love in their lives share happiness, sadness, fears and triumphs in a way that really makes a difference (at least in my life it does). When I have situations that make me feel alone, I simply reach out to my social media brothers and sisters and someone out there brings me out of the funk that may have been keeping So a toughened heart can get bathed in the love of hundreds of people and eventually the crusty exterior gets loosened and the soft middle is exposed.

Now don’t get me wrong, if I see a boy with his hand within a mile of my daughters, I still get out the shotgun, but now I smile at my daughter while I am doing it.
