Writing can be really fun.

I like it because I can get words off my chest that I seem to trip over when I speak.

Don’t get me wrong, I speak to people and I am getting over my shyness with people I do not know. I think as we get older, we decide that we are not going to live forever, so we need to get our message out immediately. I say we, but I mean me.

So back to the topic: Articles. I like to write articles. Even when I have no idea what I am going to write about, I never have difficulty getting my words out when I am typing. One thing I have to be careful of is that my real thoughts come out, and sometimes that is not what people want to hear (read).

A good exercise to increase your writing speed and ability is to use free association. For you take 10 minutes and write down 10 to 20 totally unrelated words on a page. Then you open up a new Notepad Page and then look at one of the words and start writing about how the topic you want to write about is like the first word on that page. Write 5 minutes for each word and don’t worry about spelling, punctuation or grammar.

Just type anything that comes into your head. Make sure you save the file to your My Documents folder.
In about two hours, you will have a lot of material. Wait a day or two before reading what you wrote. At that point, you take the raw material and polish it into something ready to publish.

Of course, if you are writing on a topic you know nothing about, yet, you will still not produce very good articles unless you spend hours researching your topic. I love to go to the library for research because there are thousands of places to get the data I need. The only challenge is the time constraint – I only have so many hours in a day, so I cannot research everything I want to write about very quickly. Until now.
