This is the good news!

Managing two wildly successful projects, on the otherhand is like adding more gum in your mouth when the first 15 sticks are still being mercilessly masticated into oblivion. At some point, your jaws are NOT going to be able to handle it.

In fact one of my cousins used to buy gum, (remember the Dubble Bubble gum in the colorful wax wrappers?) and he would place piece after piece in his mouth, as soon as the sugar was worn off of the first piece. I would ask him why he kept the older pieces, and he would reply because the older ones were soft enough to chew and the newer ones gave the older ones flavor. But eventually he had a wad of gum in his mouth so thick that he could barely keep his mouth closed while chewing.

Business like gum…
Managing a successful business is like trying to chew that gum. As it grows, you are adding new gum to the old gum to continue going forward. Each project you juggle is making less room in your mouth (your time is in limited supply, much like the space in your mouth) so that eventually you have to get some help.

The opposite is true, too. You have people who chew fast and furiously until the flavor is gone and then they stick it to the table, wall, cup or whatever is handy, then they forget about it. This is the person who starts projects and then gets overwhelmed, the excitement is gone or they simply move on to another project! They plan on going back to it, or hiring someone to work on it, but by the time that happens, nobody knows what comes next, or the excitement has left the project and it gets left on the hard drive. Of course if you wait too long and leave your gum out, it becomes too hard and nobody wants to chew a hard piece of gum that has no flavor anymore…

How To Make This Work
Like the chewing gum, you have to choose projects that you can easily train someone to do for you, that make you money quickly and that have a little excitement that carries them through all the way to completion. Another way is to have the steps for everything laid out in a process map that shows you how to do what you want done so that you could easily train someone.
