You Can Do Some Crazy Things With It!

As you are working your Twitter account into a well oiled machine and you have the important parts automated, you will find that you have time for outbursts of creativity and levity! This is good, because it helps your follower and listener count increase. The more buzzworthy your content, the more viral it becomes (not like the swine flu… better) to get your message in front of the most possible people!

Follow Friday Is A Lovefest!

If you get on Twitter and you see a bunch of people using the #FollowFriday hashtag (a hashtag is any keyword you place the # in front of so that you can follow that term in Twitter Search), you might be a little confused. FollowFriday is the day of the week when you recommend the people you get the most value from during that week! It really makes it cool when you talk about others, because it makes the Karma circle go round and round as people retweet your FollowFriday announcements and recommend you in theirs.

All that seemingly useless tweeting is actually great for getting your name out in front of thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands) more people than you would normally be able to on your own. If 5 people with 20,000 or more followers mention you in a FollowFriday tweet, you just went into the timelines of 100,000 people! Some of my followers are upwords of 10,000 so all they have to do is retweet me and my name is seen on thousands of timelines!

By recommending others, you are making yourself look good, in fact, you become someone that others want to befriend, because you will #FollowFriday them if you like their content! Of course, with thousands of followers, it becomes nearly impossible to add a lot of new people to your #FollowFriday list. I use a service called PostLater.net to help me out. Each week I add one more #FollowFriday tweet to my expanding list of posts, with anywhere from 5 to 9 people on it that I think others should be following. The number depends on the size of the names, and I always want to include the #FollowFriday tag to ensure that it gets seen by others who search for #FollowFriday on Twitter Search. You simply set it for weekly posts, indefinitely, and you are done! TweetLater.net is adding some features to rival Postlater, but for now the only paid service you need is PostLater.net for automating your #FollowFridays and birthdays.

What About A Spammers & A-Hole Exchange?

I use a different hashtag for these people. #UnfollowThursday is my way of warning people about those who are all about selling and not about relationship building. I also warn about people who are rude, abusive or use fraudulent tactics. I suggest you keep an eye out on that tag to make sure you don’t have some of these unruly characters on your followers list.
