Blogging With The End In Mind Part 1

Blogger: Know Thy Topic!

Knowing what to talk (or write) about is a vital part of blogging. Online marketing has clouded the waters with product launch forcing new “content” designed to get you to jump on the next piece of bait that comes out! I wish I had a magical way to choose topics, but when I get up in the morning, I sit at my computer and I start typing. Only some of what I write gets used, but when I like my topic, I usually run with it.

Focus is definitely a factor in writing well. You really need to have a firm vision of what you want to end up with. Otherwise you wind up with stuff that people use in the bird cage. One of my favorite things to do is research what questions people are asking. I used to go to Yahoo Answers and answer questions, but now I am content to just see what people are asking.

Finding Good Questions Means Wading Through A Lot Of Dumb Ones, Too!

Find A Question – Find A Market

When you have about 10 to 15 questions, you can list the different focus of each question to get an idea for how many articles or blog posts you are going to be able to write about this topic. You want the articles or blog posts to cover at least one of the focus points completely. It the focus is one where you could get a series of articles, decide on how you would like to break that up by choosing the top 10 solutions and delivering 2 per day.

Your goal is to be writing compelling blog posts to keep people coming to your site to read on a regular basis. Without the compelling topic, you might as well just paste some Private Label Rights products on your website. If you decide on a top ten solutions approach, you can also write some articles for the directories that help pull people into the blog, too. Like you can do “3 Ways To Stop Spam On Your Blog” and in the resource box you could say “see even more ways to fight blog spam at myblog.com” to get people racing to read more of your articles.

Tomorrow I will cover some reasons you should plan your content out
before writing.

Hi Micheal – So is it tomorrow yet? Because I would also like to know not just why to plan my content out, but also how, would be great. I liked the info on getting focused, going to re-read the article and take a few notes. Have an awesome day!

When I start with the end in mind I find that I write more concisely… is that what you mean?

Or am I spouting uncontrolled wisdom again?
