I spent a whole week with a hypnotist.

Dr. Harlan Kilstein is no ordinary hypnotist.  He is no ordinary man.  Dr. Kilstein was once the most successful hypnotist in South Florida.  In an area where people are looking to look good in a bikini, he capitalized on a hungry market (literally, since he was after the weight loss market) to explode his practice by simply advertising better than everyone else in his market!

But Dr. Kilstein retired from his practice, because he was making too much money by selling products in markets you and I would consider too crowded to break into.  This marketing genius is the man behind some of the successes you see taking the market by storm like “Million Dollar” Mike Morgan and Jenna Lloyd.  Some of his successful students are quietly raking in millions behind the scenes without any name recognition (in fact, they ask not to be mentioned by name to keep from being bothered) in very crowded markets!

Think about this, Dr. Kilstein is not out to “TAKE” market share away from other businesses in these crowded niches (markets – he prefers to call them markets, since he is not after a specific segment, but the whole market).  Rather than take, he teaches that by going into that market, you are actually expanding it, making it more profitable for yourself and your competition, because your competitors are all potential JV partners.

Pardon Me, But I Want To Steal Your Customers!

If we look at the world through scarcity tinted glasses, we would think that Dr. Kilstein is out to take away our customers in the Underwater Basketweaving niche.  We have struggled and fought our way to the top of that niche and our customers are OURS!!!  So when another marketer comes to us with a product idea and would like us to help them promote it to our list, we give them excuses, like “my list doesn’t buy that kind of product”, “my buyers don’t have enough money to afford your product.”

Abundance tinted glasses would make us look at this request as a way of increasing our income through a potential JV where we could get a nice percentage of some great commissions, and we could cross promote each others’ products and get that much more business!

Why are so many companies failing?

Because they look through the scarcity glasses!  They don’t see that potential that is out in the marketplace.  They only see the current number of consumers, when daily new customers are born.  A simple way of looking at this is if only 3 companies are selling red cars, they are not able to get more customers for red cars unless they find new ways to advertise… but if they have been advertising the same way for the last 20 years, they may not ever find a way to reach the newer buyers.  But if they allow new competitors into their market, people who think differently, market differently and reach a different segment of the market, they are suddenly attracting a whole new breed of consumers of red cars and they may decide to compare this new brand of red cars with your red cars and see that your red car features are much better and buy yours!

Way too much of our advertising these days is making the other guy look like a bumbling idiot instead of telling about the benefits of our product and of dealing with our company!

Price Wars Lead To Losses For Everyone

Why fight on price?  Not everyone is looking for cheap.  People are looking for value.  Everyone looks for value, even at a low price.  Whoever delivers the highest perceived value/dollar spent will get the most sales.  Plain and simple.

When everyone cuts and slashes price to bring in the most people, what usually happens is that they have to cut value, too, which means angry consumers.  I worked in retail for 17 years and I saw price cutting.  They would do whatever they could to keep prices as low as possible, while forgetting about the value.

Products began to break easily as shoddy construction was cheaper than quality construction.  Wages were kept low, so only the mediocre workers would work at those wages and customer service levels dropped.  How is that good for the consumer?

Contrast that with the luxury goods retailers who don’t worry about price, they tell you how your back is going to feel so much better when you sit in this recliner and how your feet will feel like you have just been massaged by a Tokyo Geisha if you wear this pair of slippers.

My Verdict: Scarcity Is Guilty

Guilt is definitely leveled at the scarcity minded corporations out there who are afraid of getting more people in their market.  They are the reason that many of our consumers are in such dire straits.  They are getting less value for their dollar and being marketed to so heavily with the message that if they aren’t buying more expensive stuff, they haven’t arrived.  So everyone is spending more than they earn and it is the government’s responsibility to bail out the companies who are losing their shirts instead of fixing their strategy.

You can look at abundance like congress does, and believe that the supply of money is limitless!  Nevermind that they could try and boost the market for products by just creating more jobs building infrastucture in our country, since the growth we are experiencing is not going to stop just because of a recession.  People are still being born daily.

We will need better transportation in the coming decade, more energy (let’s build nuclear power plants) and a faster more secure communication infrastucture.  The government could take the cue from the past and start planning for the future immediately!  We have an abundance of people who are more than willing and able to work.  In fact many would love nothing more than to be a part of the future of our country by helping build it.

Death To The Infidels Of Marketing!

One of the people I call a friend (and a rather odd character) thinks he’s a messiah of some sort and made a video of how to tackle this ever-increasing problem.

And believe me you, it’s probably nothing you ever seen before.

No typical internet marketing hype. Heck, no typical MARKETING in general.

Just a very strange yet effective way to use a really simple application to thrive in this trying time.
